Exemplar #1:
Advancing Care for Exceptional Kids

As developed in NURS 6022, I created the above advocacy brief after attending a Congressional hearing regarding the ACE Kids Act with the goal of educating and influencing policymakers. Based on what I learned from that experience, I also wrote the above policy analysis to address legislative issues facing families of children with medical complexity. This exposure ignited a passion for serving this unique and high risk patient population that was the catalyst for my DNP quality improvement project.

Exemplar #2:
Nurses on Capital Hill

During my 2018 AONL fellowship, I attended the American Hospital Association Leadership Summit and participated in discussions on the latest from Capital Hill, in particular, the midterm elections and their impact on hospitals and health systems. I also corresponded by email with my constituents, Congressman Tom Garrett and Senator Tim Kaine regarding funding for Title VIII Nursing Workforce Development Programs, support of Title VIII Nursing Workforce Reauthorization Act of 2017 and Reducing Administrative Burden in Health Care. Traveling to Capital Hill, I met with and further discussed these topics with legislative assistants.
