I. Scientific Underpinnings for Practice
-
Integrate nursing science with knowledge from ethics, the biophysical, psychosocial, analytical, and organizational sciences as the basis for the highest level of nursing practice.
-
Use science-based theories and concepts to:
-
determine the nature and significance of health and health care delivery . phenomena;
-
describe the actions and advanced strategies to enhance, alleviate, and ameliorate health and health care delivery phenomena as appropriate; and
-
evlauate otucomes.

Exemplar #1:
A Personal Nursing Philosophy: Theory-Guided, Family Centered Care
in the Neonatal Intensive Care Setting

Written in NURS 6009, this philosophy statement synthesizes my experience, theory application, and learning from my colleagues. It is a creation of my unique philosophy of theory-based care. It serves as the guiding set of principles for my commitment to transformation for my patients/families, my team and myself.

Exemplar #2:
The Coupling of the Technology Acceptance Model and Bandura’s Theory of Self Efficacy
to Ground Quality Improvement

Written in NURS 8040, this discussion synthesizes two theories borrowed from the field of behavioral sciences to underpin the development of a remote patient monitoring program to assist in the home, post discharge care of children with medical complexity and used as the intervention in my DNP project to reduce 30-day readmissions and ED visits.

Exemplar #3:
Diffusion of Innovation Change Theory to Deploy a Remote Patient Monitoring Program

Also written in NURS 8040, this discussion briefly describes the key elements of Roger Everett's Diffusion of Innovation (DOI) change theory, which lend well to the adoption of technological innovation. Based on the key attributes of my DNP quality improvement project, I chose DOI for its five characteristics that would most likely positively influence adoption and sustainability within the context of my organization.
